Meet Our Founders

CHANGED was founded by Ken Williams and Elizabeth Woning to highlight the beautiful and compelling stories of men and women whose journeys with Jesus drew them out of LGBTQ. Overseeing the growing CHANGED Movement, they work to open doors of dialogue that offer insight into the complexity of LGBTQ identity and seek to protect alternatives to that subculture.

I began a pursuit of my true sexual identity in 1987 when my battle against homosexuality grew into intentions of suicide. After over a decade of failed attempts at freedom, I encountered God in areas & ways that transformed me. The following years healed childhood trauma, replaced lies with truth, forged intimacy with God, and established self-love and masculine identity.

I didn’t fit in with the boys, as a child. They didn’t seem to like me, and neither did I. So from first grade, I began to live every day in a fantasy world of codependent fixation on whichever boy in my life I saw as the picture-perfect male. It was how I affirmed myself and coped with a life of hopelessness and self-hatred. My very first sexual desires were for other males. I had none for females. And my pain medication for 20 years was daily addiction to masturbation, which sometimes included stents of serious addiction to pornography. The shame of those sins and multiple inappropriate sexual encounters resulted in a suicidal season at age 17. I couldn’t fathom breaking free of my addictions or ever finding a woman sexually attractive, let alone becoming married to a woman, enjoying sex with her, and fathering four children…until a life in Christ became deeply experiential for me.

Today, I consult with individuals, churches, and organizations about issues of sexual purity and navigating LGBTQ issues, and I am a public advocate for men and women to have rights, freedoms, and counseling to leave an LGBTQ life behind if they so choose. I have been a pastor since 2006; am co-founder of CHANGED Movement; am co-founder of Equipped to Love, a ministry which serves those impacted by LGBTQ; serve Moral Revolution as an author, lecturer, and minister; and hold a B.S. in Marketing/Finance. My greatest joys are my beautiful wife and our four incredible children.

I “came out” in my early 20s and attended a Presbyterian Church (USA) seminary openly lesbian. As a student in seminary I lobbied for marriage and ordination of LGTBQ individuals and ministered among gay youth, espousing a theology that embraced homosexuality. Upon graduating I served as a youth pastor in a small rural community, where an encounter with Jesus radically shifted my perspective. The love of God drew me into a revelation that transformed my life.

I have great passion for understanding sexuality and gender as it affects Christianity in our culture. I regularly consult with pastors and leaders who seek to establish connection with the LGBTQ community and to better serve individuals in churches who do not identify as gay, yet struggle with sexual identity issues. My heart is to see the LGBTQ community fully reconciled to God and to explore compassionate means of connection to those who disagree with traditional Christian beliefs.

I teach at the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry and regularly facilitate interactive conversations about sexuality and gender here at Moral Revolution and Equipped to Love. I hold a Masters in Theology and am a licensed pastor at Bethel Church in Redding, CA where my husband, Doug, and I live.

I regularly publish essays, found here, that focus on theological and compassionate approaches to LGBTQ experience.
