On Jeffrey McCall, former leader of Freedom March

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

Many have heard that Jeffrey McCall, former leader of Freedom March, has returned to his transgender identity. We first met Jeffrey in 2018 during the season when we were taking stands in the California Capitol to ensure that people from LGBT could question one’s sexuality authentically without government intrusion. That June, we joined the first annual Freedom March in Washington, D.C., proclaiming the hope of Christ’s redemption in all our lives.

Since then, we have watched Jeffrey lead his personal ministry and take bold and courageous steps to invite others into life with Jesus. He endured immense pressure and scrutiny from every side: Christian and non-Christian alike, which surely have informed his recent decision. The production team for the disparaging film, Pray Away, sought to malign his character and publicly accused him of wrongdoing even when their footage only revealed the heart and hope of an evangelist seeking the lost. In the season of its release, he acknowledged inner struggles with sin and overt moral failures and publicly repented when he might have hidden in shame. Jeffrey invited Christians to observe the reality of the Christian walk in its weakness and reach for wholeness, yet somehow lost his way.

Here at CHANGED, we are saddened by his public announcement to return to the identity of Scarlett. At the same time, we refuse to believe that God is finished. Jeffrey is a friend and someone of great value to us and to God. There could be many reasons he has returned to the identity of Scarlett, and we continue to speak privately with him and pray for him as a team.

Please join us in praying for his safety, heart, and life in Christ.
